Special Health Announcement

H1N1 Virus / Swine Flu

While there have only been 7 confirmed cases of Swine Flue in Lenawee County by mid – October, we have had 3 confirmed cases and several with symptoms of it here at BBA.  The Center for Disease Control has provided the following information about H1N1.

Symptoms:     Fever (100°F or higher), coughing or sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headaches or body aches, chills, fatigue, vomiting or diarrhea.

If you student is diagnosed with H1N1 / Swine Flu they must stay home from school at least 24 hours after their fever (100°F) has gone.  Their fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.  For this reason, and to prevent the spread of this virus to other students, and student who is found to have these symptoms or this grade of fever or who returns the next day after having had this fever will be sent home immediately.

The reason we have such strict policies about this is because the Swine Flu, if not treated properly, can lead to much more searious and even life-threatening health issues.  We want to protect each student and staff member from such risks.

Ways to prevent the flu: Cover you nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.  Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.  Wash your hands with soap and water ofter, or use alcohol-based hand cleaners.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.  The virus can spread by air or by contact.

* If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact the school office. *
